Julie L. Scholz

September 19, 1946 — April 22, 2026

La Crosse, WI

Julie Louise Scholz, 79, of the north side of La Crosse, died on April 22, 2026, at Brookdale Sterling House.

She was born on September 19, 1946, to Bernard and Louise (Olsen) Kast. She graduated from Aquinas High School. In 1970, she married John Scholz. They made their life on the north side of La Crosse, raising their son there, and keeping their home their entire lives. Julie worked many places throughout her adult life including Montgomery Ward, Belscot, Ed Philips Distribution, Hemker Heating & Oil, the Dioceses of La Crosse, and Sara Lee.

If you didn’t know Julie well, she may have seemed a bit gruff on the outside. She was also very compassionate, loving, and generous, especially when it came to her grandsons – she spoiled them beyond belief! Whenever they visited, she always planned adventures for them involving a variety of activities and places to eat that she knew that they would enjoy.

Julie enjoyed long weekend car rides (windows up please), loved eating out (she knew every restaurant in the area and beyond), and was very fond of trips to the casino. Speaking of road trips, the Scholz family went to a variety of places in the Midwest, including Springfield, IL, St. Louis, MO, and Duluth, MN. One of the last trips that she and John went on was to San Antonio and Oklahoma City. In 2015 she switched it up, by taking her first cruise to the Caribbean with her family. (She had a very good time – sans those darn pictures!!) It was just like her to wear a sweater with matching tennis shoes and pantyhose to the beach, and then she wondered why she was so hot! It was also like her to wear the tennis shoes and panty hose as she stepped into the ocean for the first time.

After being apart for 16 years, Julie is now reunited with her husband, John, and will also be joining her parents, brother Paul Kast, and brother-in-law Rudy Silva. She is survived by her son, Brad (Dawn), her grandsons, Ben and Sam, her brother Eugene (Mae) Kast, Maxine Silva, and her sister Mary (Jim) Donnell, nieces and nephews Douglas (Donna) Kast, Nicholas Kast (Susan), David (Rhonda) Willie, Paul Willie, Vanessa Silva and multiple great nieces and nephews. Julie also leaves behind her two wonderful friends that supported her to the end, Jan and Sue.

A prayer service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 7th, 2026, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse at a later date.

Her family would like to extend a very heartfelt thanks to the kind staff and caregivers at Brookdale and St. Croix hospice, for their care, support, and kindness over the past 16 months. Julie always loved their visits and the conversations they would have while they cared for her.
